BTW, what is the future of Bluecurve? At least does it have a future?
It looks like the development of Bluecurve practically stopped around the release of FC2, I think it should be either revived or discontinued.

How about starting a new generation theme with community involvement, the same way Novell do with Tango (http://tango-project.org/)?

or just adopt or work with Tango. If the general style suits Fedora there is no need to redo it.

Sure, this is a possible approach, but personally I am not sure where the Tango theme will go:

- it conflicts with GNOME HIG in both color palette and icon size - one day GNOME will have to make a decision about this; - KDE is creating a different theme (Oxygen) which will use at *the maximum* the naming scheme from Tango; - OpenOffice.org probably will continue to copy the Microsoft Office icons, as its primary target is Windows.

In the meantime, a Fedora desktop is an inconsistent mix of Bluecurve, Industrial, OpenOffice.org and maybe some Mozilla icons.

Tango is not only an icon theme, in fact it is mainly an icon naming specification.

I think it make sense to support this naming scheme, which is under development at freedesktop.org.

As for the icons themselves, I can see both pluses and minuses of either having an own theme or adopting Tango. A new theme is certainly a lot of work (maybe duplicate work) and have to be maintained for a long period of time (see the subject of this message) but it can improve the identity of the distro and expand the community. Look at how much publicity has Tango generated. However, looking back at the logo design process, I am not very confident our community excels in the graphic department: basically the community was not able to come with a good enough logo and in the end an external (professional) design was used.
