I find up2date has a tendency to puke (still using dialup) if I try to use it to update a larger package (i.e. kernel). Instead I use the rhn-applet to look at the list of updates, then get them via ftp from a mirror - it saves a lot of time! The mirror I was on last night to update my kernel-source clicked along between 5-7 kb/s, great for my 33.6k modem which averages 2-3kb/s. The disadvantage of ftp is that it's not https, but I'm not running a mission critical system. (I suppose it is to me, but not to anyone else) I too wouldn't mind seeing "new" packages showing up in rhn-applet. The FC team might also want to build in a list of https mirrors (if they exist) into up2date, it would lighten the load on the Red Hat server.
