Thanks, but I'm way beyond that. The Hal daemon rewrites fstab, which is not
editable by the user in FC4 to make it persistent. There is a problem with
configuring Hal and udev.

Can you write this line on your /etc/fstab
/dev/sda1 /mnt/usb msdos defaults 0 0
This can help you to automount
