Personally, I like the dark version and animated too:) We have an excellent basis for further work on other artwork. The main it's like for many other folks.

Well, personally I'm fan of this one:

But out of the variants proposed for Alpha, I like the darker the best. It's
easiest on eyes, non-obtrusive, makes the foreground stand out more. FYI, the
gnome/mate/cinnamon variants I prepared are animated (other DEs does not
support this feature, AFAIK):
