Hi all!
This is my first post to the list! I've been working with Jorn Lomax
as
part of the Google Summer of Code project the Fedora audio spin. I
believe Jorn introduced himself here [1].
Hi and welcome!
We've come a long way now and have decided on using KDE as the base
system for the Fedora Jam audio spin.
Good choice! As a KDE SIG member and author of KDM/KSplash themes I
can help you with implementation issues - take a look on kde-settings,
spherical-cow-kde-theme packages.
We are probably going to use a darker KDE theme by default (such as
Oxygen or Caledonia) and are desperately in need of some KDE splash
and
wallpaper ideas that will fit with this.
What we do now is that we just set default wallpaper for every KDM/
KSplash release. There was time when I was playing with it but it's
really time consuming. Especially with all theming support - it was
hard to achieve nice results.
I think we are looking at producing an overall theme package, which
generates KDE themes as well as the other desktops. Up until this point
I've basically been following the packages created for Beefy (wallpapers
and themes only at this stage, the former packaged the latter not).
Some people on the music list were speculating about changing the splash
icons to audio related ones... unless anyone here has the time and
desire to do it I say go for it, but I think at this stage we are happy
with the placement but a splash screen would be nice.
One question I do have is what are the deadlines associated with themes
for new spins? We have our ankles tied at the moment while we ait for
the spins wrangler to approve our spin. I for one don't want to stop
work because of this. Once the spin is approved (and I can see know
reason why it wouldn't be) we still need to get the themes wallpapers
etc signed off? What is that process?
