Hi Ryan, The release name follows a pattern and is chosen (voted on) quite early on in the release cycle. Check here for the history and some info. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/History_of_Fedora_release_names Verne is after Jules Verne, which might give you more imagery to work with than just Verne.
