Hi,
you can copy them wherever you want even in a folder as a common user.

right click on the desktop icon->properties->left click on the icon

and select an icon you would like to replace it with.

Just don't make experiments with the Trash bin - it is a little bit more complex and the icon may go beyond recovery (without reinstalling the themes).
