Mockups can be thought of as just drawings or illustrations of what anapplication's UI should look like. There isn't any specific way to doit. You can draw it up in Inkscape, or you can combine screenshots inGIMP to create something that looks like an application. Even the mostabstract ideas can be accomplished by a programmer these days. Take,for eg. Chromium. Chromium's UI is entirely written in GTK+.
You could even use a RAD tool, like Glade 3 to design an application'sUI ready for immediate use.
