Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness
Month, the FDA Office of Women’s Health is conducting outreach to educate women
about the importance of mammography screening for breast cancer early
detection. Our Pink
Ribbon Sunday Program helps to empower community leaders and health
professionals to conduct mammography outreach activities for the women they
serve. The program initially targeted African American and Hispanic churches
but has since expanded to local and national organizations serving women from
diverse backgrounds.
This year, we are proud to announce
that the Pink Ribbon Sunday Program is collaborating with the American Association on Health and Disability and the Association of University Centers
on Disabilities to disseminate FDA mammography information to women living with
a disability. The American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is a national, cross – disability organization dedicated to
improving health and reducing health disparities in children and adults with
disabilities. AAHD has outreached to
health care providers and mammography facilities about the importance of
reducing barriers and making their facilities fully accessible. The Association
of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is a national network of
university-based centers and programs in every state and territory working to
advance policy and practice for people living with disabilities and their
families. AUCD works with diverse professional teams to help people with
disabilities live well.
We encourage health professionals and
community leaders to use these resources to educate women about mammography and
make mammography screening accessible to women living with disabilities.
