Title: Medicines in My Home Update: Be Active in Your Health

National Minority Health Month is a time to raise awareness about the key role prevention can play in reducing the increased risks of heart disease, some cancers, diabetes, and other illnesses that racial and ethnic minorities experience. FDA has developed resources that can help you take charge of your health, including the medicines you may use to help prevent and treat these diseases. Check out the fact sheet Be An Active Member of Your Health Care Team to learn how being involved and asking questions about your medicines can increase their benefits and make you SAFER.

Working together with your health care professionals can help them plan care that’s best for you. And it helps you to understand the medicines and other treatments they prescribe so you can make decisions that are the best for you. You can be SAFER by Speaking up, Asking questions, Finding the facts, Evaluating your choices, and Reading your medicine labels and following the directions.

For more information, including a list of questions you can ask, take a look at the fact sheet and FDA’s other resources on the Ensuring Safe Use of Medicine Web page. YOU are a critical member of your health care team and working together can keep you SAFER and healthier.
