It’s Not Too Late to Vaccinate!

Child receiving flu shotIt’s not too late to get vaccinated for this winter’s flu season. Flu season usually peaks in January or February, but it can occur as late as May.

The best protection against the flu is to get the vaccine. Seasonal flu vaccines have a very good safety track record and will protect you for one flu season.

Early immunization is the most effective, but it is not too late to get the vaccine in December, January, or beyond. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop and provide protection against the flu virus infection. In the meantime, you are still at risk for getting the flu.

Our flu infographic shows you what you need to know about the flu vaccine. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated. It is especially important to get the vaccine if you, someone you live with, or someone you care for is at high risk of complications from the flu.

Approximately 5-20% of U.S. residents get the flu each year. Don’t be part of that statistic! Get vaccinated today!

Everybody can do their part to help prevent the spread of germs and protect themselves from the flu. Follow us on Twitter (@FluGov) for a different flu tip each Friday (#FluTips).
