Certain groups of people are more susceptible to food poisoning, also known as foodborne illness. This means that they are more likely to get sick from contaminated food and, if they do get sick, the effects are much more serious.
People at high risk for foodborne illness include:
- Pregnant women
- Older adults
- People with weakened immune systems caused by cancer treatment, diabetes, AIDS, bone marrow and organ transplants, and other conditions.
If you have questions about food safety for these high-risk groups, join us today, September 16, at 3:30 p.m. for a Twitter chat at @USDAFoodSafety. Use #NFSEM to join.
