Liquid Surgical Sealant Approved to Help Control Oozing
FDA has approved Evicel Fibrin Sealant, a liquid product that is applied topically to help control oozing from small blood vessels during surgery. The product can be useful when suturing, compression, or other standard techniques are not effective or practical.

USDA Allows Processing of Hogs Fed Tainted Food Scraps
Following tests showing that melamine and related compounds do not accumulate in pork, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is allowing hogs fed rations supplemented with pet food scraps containing the chemicals to be released for processing. About 56,000 hogs had been held on farms in seven states pending test results.

Reason for recall: pieces of glass found in jars
›  Margaret Holmes Seasoned Turnip Greens (with product code TURN3 K10GY and "Best by date" of November 2009)

Safety Alert:

FDA is examining all available clinical data on the Type 2 diabetes drug Avandia after receiving safety data on the drug showing a potentially significant increase in the risk of heart attack and heart-related deaths in patients taking Avandia. Other studies, however, provide contradictory evidence. Though FDA has not confirmed the significance of the reported increased risk, the agency is urging patients taking Avandia, especially those with underlying heart disease or who are at a high risk of heart attack, to discuss the new information with their doctor.
