LOS ANGELES The U.S. Department of
Transportations Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes a $63,000 civil
penalty against CTC Battery Inc. of Hayward, Calif., for allegedly violating
Hazardous Material Transportation Regulations.
The FAA alleges that on April 25, 2013, CTC Battery offered
an undeclared shipment of four 12.8V rechargeable lithium ion phosphate
batteries to UPS for air transportation to Tampa, Fla.
The agency alleges the shipment was not accompanied by shipping papers to indicate the
hazardous nature of its contents and was not marked, labeled or packaged in
accordance with the Hazardous Materials Regulations. The company also allegedly
failed to provide emergency response information and failed to ensure its
employees received required hazardous materials training.
CTC Battery has been in
communication with the FAA about the case.
