U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood Announces

$3.2 Million Grant for Indianapolis International Airport

WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced a $3.2 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant for the construction of a de-icing containment facility at Indianapolis International Airport.

“This money will allow Indianapolis International Airport to make important upgrades to its infrastructure,” said Secretary LaHood. “These investments help support economic growth as we enhance our nation’s airports.”

The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will help pay for the upgrade and expansion of the storm water/de-icing system at Indianapolis International Airport. The existing storm water system is operating at full capacity. This project will replace the linings of both systems and allow for better efficiency on the field.

“This grant will help Indianapolis be a good steward of the environment while remaining safe and efficient through all types of weather,” said Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.

The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are vital to maintaining the safety, capacity, and environmental stewardship of our nation’s airports. More than 3,300 airports are eligible for AIP grants benefiting commercial passengers, cargo operations, and general aviation activities throughout the nation.
