The one exception I'm aware of is that ext3 + SELinux creates EAs on
symlinks and that confuses older 2.4 kernels into thinking the symlink
is a "slow" one, dereferecing the content of the symlink as block numbers.
That was fixed in later 2.4 kernels, though not sure when.
