Ext3 structure

To all:

I'm interested in learning more about the details of the Linux file system(s). I want also to help train employees who are helping to administer Linux boxes, so nice clear answers to questions like: "What is an inode?", etc... would be very nice to have.

I'd like personally to learn a fair amount about ext3 in particular, as most of our clients format their partitions however the default RedHat install encourages them to.

I know that the ultimate manual is available - reading the source code. I'd like to cut my teeth on a somewhat more pedestrian source at first. Does anyone on this list have any recommendations? I have a lot of experience doing file recovery under windows FAT filesystems, and about 15 years experience with various Unix flavors if that helps with the suggestions.

Thanks much for your time,

Darrell McGuire
