I work with a MySQL installation containing several thousand databases. MySQL represents each database as a seperate sub-directory of the main MySQL data directory. As the number of databases increases it seems that the time to connect is increasing significantly and I believe this is probably due to the time necessary to search through the large number of directory entries. It has been suggested to me to look into the "indexed directory" patch for ext3 in order to increase performance. Can anyone give me an idea how stable this is? Is it suitable for a production environment? If yes, a pointer to the patch would be very helpful.
