Perhaps I misspoke. To enable/disable I wanted to say "turn on/turn off" the display using some function of drm.

force enabling or disabling the named video port. It then won't check
on a connected monitor. You need to have set modesetting with
modeset=1. The naming is dependent on the video card/chipset
