[Bug 70514] Unresponsive system on boot with radeon + FireGL v7700

I seem to have run into an instance of this on my Dell Precision T5400
workstation.  The crash, whatever it is, seems to occur before anything is
logged, and so far I haven't been able to gather more information about it. 
Any suggestions as to how to proceed - are there perhaps some options I might
try? - are welcome?
