I just stumbled across this bug report, where similar lockups were reported for different GPUs: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85421 >From there I understood that the mesa version may have an affect on this. Currently I use Mesa 10.3.7, so my question: Could an upgrade to the latest stable mesa help with this issues?
