@Michel Dänzer the problem remains. in the meantime i have updated my kde plasma next via kubuntu ppa's like i am doing everyday, and while the content in the xorg.conf remains the same, i now have the black screen again :( next stop mesa drivers? could you tell me what exactly do i have look for in the ppa's as this seems to be a custom install and not included in the updates.
