That shouldn't be necessary, the kernel sets up the hardware to byte-swap the ring/indirect buffer commands on the fly. Basically, you need to find out why the radeon_cs_ioctl() function in the kernel returns a non-0 value. Enabling DRM debugging output via /sys/module/drm/parameters/debug may help, or you may have to add more debugging printks to narrow down where it's coming from.
