Are you sure you're logs are valid? Cause both a single mode switch shortly
after boot:

bad/dmesg_24pbroken.log:[   11.148315] [drm:radeon_compute_pll_avivo], 297000 -
29700, pll dividers - fb: 29.7 ref: 2, post 5

good/dmesg_24pOK.log:[   11.400765] [drm:radeon_compute_pll_avivo], 29700, pll
dividers - fb: 29.7 ref: 2, post 5

You might try to ssh into the box and change the modes using xrandr directly.
