I think there are two kinds of problems here:
first: looping, corruption, black window (also have this).
and seems there are 'sleep 1; xset dpms force off' in terminal before using
vdpau workaround for that.
second: gpu hangs, which seems to be a mesa regression after 9.2.5

Did you try to set dpms off after boot before seeing that?
