requested by fritsch to try with vdpau enabled but vdpau *mixer* disabled. I find with vdpau mixer disabled, playback looks fine, the problem disappears. So the problem would appear to be in the mixer part. :-) This matches that portion of vladi's findings, though to reiterate 10.0 and 10.0.1 worked fine for me with vdpau mixer enabled.
