We could, but I don't see much value in that. E.g. we would need to code the software in a way which also works if the hardware is damaged. That is possible, but I grepped a bit over the source and in this particular case we would need to manually audit 2201 registers accesses so that they also work when the hardware suddenly goes up in flames.
