With my Radeon R9 Fury, I tested kernels down to 4.16.3 (latest version that does not crash) and found this commit to be a reason for errors: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10354647/ I built kernel 4.16.13 with this commit reverted, and it works nicely without errors in dmesg.
