I didn't think about it this way, because I used exactly the same version of the drivers, just rebuild them via emerge @x11-module-rebuild @module-rebuild. On the other hand, initially I didn't rebuild them and used the version built against 4.10. It failed to resume on v4.9, so I assumed I should rebuild them too.
