Did the kernel get upgraded to a newer version around that time?

Are there any other error messages in dmesg after this? Maybe attach the whole
dmesg output.

It looks like maybe a DRM (driver) error path doesn't unlock
dev->mode_config.mutex, so any code trying to lock that hangs.
