I don't see what you mean. The HDMI device is both the encoder
and connector (as the TDA998x):

plane -> DE2 mixer ---> TCON -----> HDMI -----> display device
----- plane ------    - CRTC -   - encoder  \
                                   connector -- (HDMI cable)
         audio-controller -   - audio-codec /
