But that page seems mainly to be a reference for xrandr usage, which as I understand it works only with a running X-server , which I do not have : $ unset DISPLAY; xrandr --listproviders Can't open display $ I am trying to get the X-server running, which it refuses to do because it cannot probe for display modes, and seemingly cannot be configured not to do so without major reworking. If you or anyone could please suggest how to start the X-server with the xf86-video-ati driver controlling the Radeon Card, as it claims to be able to do, I'd be most appreciative of any tips .
