The delay you see on starting is the driver (on wine's behalf) repeatedly querying the outputs for connected displays (which can be excruciatingly slow due to dumb hardware, e.g. VGA load-detection on i8xx/i915). -Chris -- Chris Wilson, Intel Open Source Technology Centre
