Is there a way to run the latest versions (1.6.1 or 1.6.2) of cryptsetup on Ubuntu 12.10 (kernel 3.2.48) ?

I am interested on the ‘truecrypt’ support (tcrypt type) added in the latest versions.

Currently Ubuntu runs cryptsetup version 1.4.3.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I think the safety was to do it is to make some sort of a package update request for cryptsetup to be updated and wait until it is updated and then update normally through ubuntu's official update channels.

The second most safety way is to build cryptsetup from source. The installed version of cryptsetup managed by ubuntu's package system should have it at either "/usr" or "/".Installing your own updated version at "/usr/local" will allow peaceful coexistence btw your personal version and the version managed by your distribution.
