Depending on your key-file, it probably contains something like a
line-feed or carriage-return or both. If you pipe it to cryptsetup as
passphrase, this marks the end of your passphrase while if you feed it
as key-file it becomes part of your key.
So, just for your curiosity - try to remove trailing line-feeds etc. and
see how it works then as key-file.
