Store the crop rectangle in a v4l2_rect, it will make it easier to move
to arbitrary cropping.

Similarly, the binning ratio should be computed based on the crop size
and the output size.

In general, store in this structure data that maps to the V4L2 subdev
formats and selection rectangles, and calculate registers based on
those. Even better, don't make the driver mode-based.

What's the "Arbitrary vertical cropping" above ? You should detail the
internal processing pipeline in a comment somewhere.

Define named macros for the registers instead of adding comments at the
end of the lines here.

It doesn't seem like you need a custom lock. You however need to use the
same lock for the active state and the controls, and that can be the
default control handler lock.

Drop this field and find the mode in the imx283_start_streaming§)
function based on the active state instead, and pass it from there to
the other functions that need it when starting the stream.

The sensor outputs raw formats only, it would be clearer to set these
four values explicitly.

The only thing you can set here is the width and height, it would be
more efficient to copy them explicitly to the format, and then set
fmt->format = *format.
