This depends on another round of patches which also never made it upstream and from reading the thread[1], I'm not actually sure what's missing, or what should be changed. I'm also not convinced that this makes things better in any meaningful way. It pulls in extra dependencies (nvmem subsystem), which means more kernel bloat for embedded systems, which are currently the only ones that even need this.
