Hi Priya,

Great to know that you will be working on Ceph.

Well, I assume by building you mean you are building the Ceph source code. If that is the case, then you can build Ceph on Ubuntu 20.05.03. And if you are using Windows as the main Operating System on your machine (your laptop or your desktop), then of course you can need to install a Virtual Machine (VM) which supports Linux.  Please make sure you allocate enough memory and disk resources to your VM in order to build Ceph source code. You can check the Ceph documentation online where it is mentioned the minimum requirements for a machine to build the source code.

I hope it answers your question.

Subject: Building a Ceph

Hello
I am Priya , 3rd year student pursuing B.Tech , got interest in Ceph , therefore chose it as a organization to contribute for GSOC & outreachy.

I was installing Ceph ,during building the Ceph , do we have to built it on virtual machine(like for instance,  we install ubuntu on virtual machine when we are using Windows)?

I am using ubuntu 20.05.3 . Do I have to install virtual environment?
