It's the same version of sendmail-8.13.7, built with the same parameters. Sendmail.conf: checkpw_method: saslauthd mech_list: login plain However, the sasl-lib on Solaris 9 was pre-built (using version 2.1.21). I don't find any debugging-parameters to use, so I can't get any better message than: AUTH failure (LOGIN): user not found (-20) SASL(-13): user not found: checkpass failed /P
