Thanks. I merged your patch, but with these changes:

1) Moved function calls to reside after variable declarations in { }
   compound statement. Otherwise older gcc versions choke on the code.

2) Changed new strings to:
   "Delaying ${BOOTDEV} mount for ${INITIALDELAY} seconds...\n"
   "...delay complete, continuing\n"
   "Delaying ${EXTERNALGPGDEV} mount for ${MOUNTDELAY} seconds...\n"
   "...delay complete, continuing\n"
