Thanks for the reply, it really cleared things up!
I thought that it was the other way round, that could cause trouble - to use journaling on the filesystem, but not on the loop.
Btw. is ext2 a journaling filesystem?

If you use loop-aes for file partitions you don't have problems using
a journaling file system.

If you mount a file via loop, you shouldn't use journaling filesystems
for this mount. Journaling filesystems can lead to deadlock situations.

The filesystem for the loop file dosn't have this problem.
As far as I know you can use here journaling file systems without problems.

I don't have done performance tests for different filesystems so far.
