problem with aes-256 after software upgrade

hi,

i've a knoppix 3.4 (debin) harddisk installation. i've compilled my kernel 2.6.6 my selfe an it was unchanged during all what i'm describing.

i've setup a loop device with AES 256 encryption. for this i've generate 2KB random data (/dev/random) as a key. as you know /dev/random produces random data, not only printable text. i've used losetup with the "-p 0" option to get this wonking. every thing worked as expected.

then i've decided that i need "udev" and thats where my problems started. the APT setupup of "udev" told me that it has to remove the package "mount-aes". this is a knoppix propriatarie package. you may find it here: <http://developer.linuxtag.net/knoppix/i386/> after the setup my loop devices stoped working.

the first visible difference was that i've to user "aes-256" instead of "AES256" on the losetup commandline with the "-e" option. with aes-256 it seemd to work. no errors were showen. but the filesystem keeps unusable as if i've used the wrong password. then i've tried the old version of losetup. as expected i had to use AES256. but losetup simply stats:

ioctl: LOOP_SET_STATUS: Invalid argument

please keep in mind that all this is done without changing the kernel in any way.

can some one please help ? i really need my data :(

TIA
