It went from being a tech preview to supported between 5.2 and 5.3 (according to the rhel release notes), so with 5.4 it's (still) fully supported. 

A change worth noting, perhaps, is that rh no longer recommends using gfs2 for standalone nodes (i.e. non-clustered environments) even though the file system _is_ capable of being used in that environment with the "-p lock_nolock" option in mkfs.gfs2.
