You can easily tell if they are communicating through the dedicated network "172.16" by having them pinging each other, or run 'cman_tool status' on the two nodes if 'Node addresses' not the same subnet then that's could be why. You should define static records for them in /etc/hosts:
> 172.16.1.1 node01
> 172.16.1.2 node02
But as far as I know they don't have to be on the same subnet as long as the multicasting work, tcpdump would be your best friend if you need to debug it further ..
