Hmm, how about modinfo gfs?
I don't know but e.g. modinfo on RHEL4 shows something that looks like a
version.
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp/kernel/fs/gfs/gfs.ko
description: Global File System 2.6.9-60.3
author: Red Hat, Inc.
license: GPL
vermagic: 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp SMP 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-3.4
depends: lock_harness,cman

Isn't there a way to show the version and compiletime or some more
informations of debs (dpkg --something). Are not your gfs-mods installed via
apt or did you compile them right away?
