So (if I read that correctly) the physical hosts are OK but the VM doesn't want to play?

Yeah, that's correct.

If broadcast really seems not to work then you could always try multicast...

Got it working - I had the kernel for the xenU set to PENTIUM4, on a PENTIUM3 physical cpu. Rebuilt it for P3, and suddenly things worked. Go figure..
