There's some talk of sharing the single > database amonst several mirrors using Samba and CIFS-VFS. :) Well, there is a package called libsvn-mirror-perl which should make it possible to mirror a subversion server on the subversion protocol level, so there should be no problem with any kind of locking. But your approach could work too.
