Depending on the drives in question; this may work.

However I would also suggest looking at Seagate's OpenSeachest tooling.

There are some very valuable warnings in the docs (summarized here):
Any power-loss partway through the reformat may because the drive to
become inoperable - sometimes permanent, sometimes recoverable with
another successful sg_format call.
