I'd also be very interested in this. At the moment I just use robinhood (https://github.com/cea-hpc/robinhood) , which is less than optimal. I also have a few scripts that use the xattrs instead of statting every file.

Is there any tool to dump the metadata pool and decode, without going via MDS servers?.
