using the rados bench utility is a good start.

- create a ceph pool called "test"

- test writes
rados -p test bench 30 write -t 20  --no-cleanup

- test  seq reads
rados -p test bench 30 seq -t 20  

- test random reads
rados -p test bench 30 rand -t 20  

args:
* pool to test on
-p test
* num threads to us
-t = <n>
30 = 30 seconds

try with different thread numbers

Also useful to start vm's on the pool and bench inside them using tools such 
as dd, bonnie++, fio and CrystalDiskMark (windows)
